In an alternate world inspired by the aesthetics of pulp comics and classic science fiction cinema, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow transports viewers to a stylized, futuristic version of the 1930s. The story begins when New York City is suddenly invaded by colossal robots that march relentlessly through its streets, spreading chaos and destruction. In the face of this threat, the daring Joe Sullivan—better known as “Sky Captain”—enters the scene. He is a heroic pilot who leads a private air force dedicated to protecting the world from such dangers.
While Sky Captain battles in the skies, journalist Polly Perkins—his former lover—follows a lead on the mysterious disappearance of several renowned scientists. Polly, who works for the Chronicle, suspects a connection between the robot attacks and the sudden vanishing of these brilliant minds. Her investigation brings her back into contact with Sky Captain, with whom she shares a turbulent past and undeniable chemistry, despite the differences that once drove them apart.
Determined to uncover the truth behind these strange events, Polly and Sky Captain join forces and embark on a perilous mission that takes them far beyond New York. Their adventure leads them to the remote and icy mountains of the Himalayas, where the elusive Dr. Totenkopf is rumored to be hiding. This enigmatic, almost mythical figure is believed to be the mastermind behind the robots and the architect of a dark plan that could endanger the future of humanity.
