Michael Newman is a talented architect, a tireless worker, and a man with boundless ambition. He’s convinced that if he can impress his boss—a selfish and ungrateful man—he’ll finally earn the long-awaited promotion he believes he deserves. But this commitment to his career comes at a high cost: his personal life is slowly falling apart. His wife Donna and their two children receive little attention, as Michael devotes more and more time to his job, believing he’s doing it all for the good of his family.
In the midst of his exhaustion and frustration, Michael crosses paths with Morty, an eccentric and mysterious salesman at an electronics store. Morty offers him something unexpected: a universal remote control—but not an ordinary one. This device allows Michael to literally control his life. He can pause it, fast-forward through awkward or repetitive moments, and even rewind to relive past memories. Fascinated by the possibilities, Michael begins using the remote to skip arguments with his wife, bypass illnesses, avoid traffic, and accelerate his journey toward professional success.
What begins as a magical and convenient solution soon spirals out of control. The remote, seemingly with a will of its own, starts making decisions for him, skipping over key parts of his life without Michael being able to stop it. As the years flash by in the blink of an eye, he realizes he has been absent from life’s most important moments: his children growing up, the love of his wife, and even the value of simple, everyday experiences.
