“Shazam!” offers a refreshing and irreverent take on the world of superheroes through the story of Billy Batson, a 14-year-old teenager who has spent most of his life in foster care. Shaped by a difficult childhood and a rebellious spirit, Billy’s life takes an unexpected turn when he is chosen by an ancient wizard to become his champion. By shouting the magical word “SHAZAM!”, Billy instantly transforms into an adult superhero with a powerful physique and extraordinary abilities—though he retains the mind and heart of a teenager.

Portrayed by Asher Angel as the young Billy and by Zachary Levi as his superhero counterpart, Shazam stands out as a unique character in the superhero universe. Unlike other protagonists burdened by trauma, moral responsibility, or existential dilemmas, Billy embraces his newfound powers with the carefree enthusiasm and humor typical of his age. The film cleverly explores what an average kid might do if suddenly granted superhuman abilities: fly, shoot lightning from his hands, become invulnerable—or simply skip a school exam.
