In the 1980s, Gotham City experienced a period of great social upheaval, marked by rising crime rates and a corrupt local government. It is within this context that the story of a man begins, whose life will radically change as he is dragged by the dark forces that dominate the city. This man is Arthur Fleck, a stand-up comedian who, despite his efforts to find success in the entertainment world, faces constant rejection and humiliation. His life is marked by a series of personal and professional failures that push him further into deep despair.

Fleck, who works as a clown occasionally, struggles with severe mental health issues, but in a society that has no compassion for the most vulnerable, he finds no support or understanding. Over the years, his attempts to become a successful stand-up comedian end in failure, causing a growing resentment toward a world that ignores and ridicules him. In his daily life, he suffers physical and emotional abuse, which contributes to his psychological deterioration.

As time passes, Arthur finds himself trapped in a spiral of despair. The lack of an adequate mental health system, combined with the poverty and corruption in Gotham, pushes him toward a radical transformation. The man who once tried to make people laugh becomes something entirely different: a criminal driven by madness and the desire for vengeance. Society rejects him, and in turn, he rejects a city that never accepted him.

Arthur Fleck's figure begins to take on a chilling form: that of a psychopath seeking chaos and destruction instead of a normal life. The city of Gotham, plagued by violence and hopelessness, becomes the perfect breeding ground for the creation of a villain of the magnitude that we will eventually come to know as the Joker. His transformation from an ordinary man to an infamous psychopathic criminal is a reflection on the dangers of social exclusion, the abandonment of systems, and the consequences of a society that doesn't know how to handle those who are on the brink of despair.
