Huck Levine (Adam Sandler) and Larry Valentine (Kevin James) are two exemplary firefighters from New York, known not only for their bravery but above all for the strong friendship that unites them. Huck is the classic lifelong bachelor, a fan of carefree living without attachments, while Larry, a widower and devoted father, lives entirely for his children. Bound by years of teamwork and camaraderie, their bond is put to the test when an unexpected situation forces them to cross the thin line between friendship and appearances.
It all begins when Larry, worried about the financial future of his children, discovers a bureaucratic obstacle that prevents him from naming them as beneficiaries of his life insurance. The solution seems as simple as it is absurd: convincing Huck to sign documents declaring them as a domestic partnership. What was meant to be a straightforward and confidential procedure quickly spirals into a public scandal when a government official starts questioning the authenticity of their union.
As a result, Huck and Larry are swept into a farcical situation of unexpected proportions. What started as a simple act of friendship turns into a full-blown comedy of errors, where both men must pretend to be a loving couple in front of their coworkers, the local community, and, most critically, a strict investigator determined to expose any falsehood. Through awkward encounters, hilarious scenarios, and a cascade of misunderstandings, the two friends will discover not only how hard it is to fake something they’re not, but also how much they still have to learn about empathy, tolerance, and social prejudice.
