In a bleak future where civilization has collapsed, scientist Robert Neville walks alone through the deserted streets of New York City. He is not just any survivor: he is the last known human who has withstood the effects of a devastating, man-made virus that spiraled completely out of control. The pandemic, in its ruthless spread, transformed humanity, leaving behind a ghost city and a reality in which hope seems like a distant memory.
Neville, immune to the virus for reasons unknown, has become the sole human inhabitant of a silent and dangerous metropolis. Despite the apparent solitude, his life is far from peaceful. During the day, he searches the remnants of the city for supplies, survives with what he can find, and works tirelessly in his improvised lab in an attempt to develop a cure. At night, he hides away, for he is not truly alone: other creatures, once human and now transformed by the infection into aggressive and deadly beings, lurk in the shadows. These nocturnal predators have lost their humanity—but not their intelligence or their ability to organize—which makes their threat even more terrifying.
