In a distant future, the vast known galaxy is organized under a complex feudal system in which various noble houses compete for power, all of them subordinate to the central figure of the Emperor. Within this intricate political structure, alliances, betrayals, and strategies revolve around a key planet: Dune, also known as Arrakis. At first glance, Dune appears to be a desert world, barren and inhospitable, but it hides a vital resource for the survival of the empire: the spice melange.
The spice is not only a highly valuable substance due to its effects on longevity and heightened perception, but it is also essential for interstellar travel, as it enables the Spacing Guild to navigate through space. This monopoly on melange makes Dune the geopolitical epicenter of the empire and, consequently, the stage for ongoing struggles over its control.
In this context, the Emperor orders the transfer of Dune’s governance from House Harkonnen—a ruthless dynasty known for its cruelty—to House Atreides, a noble family respected for its honor and just leadership. At the head of House Atreides is Duke Leto Atreides, who accepts the challenge knowing full well that it could be a political trap. Nevertheless, he sees in it an opportunity to strengthen his influence and protect his people.
