In 1987, in a small coastal town in California, a story unfolds that will mark the beginning of a saga from a more intimate and emotional perspective. The film Bumblebee, directed by Travis Knight, takes us back to the origins of the charismatic yellow Autobot, before the events we came to know in the Transformers franchise.
In his attempt to escape the war ravaging his home planet, Cybertron, Bumblebee arrives on Earth seeking refuge. Gravely wounded after a battle, he finds shelter in an abandoned junkyard, where he suffers damage that leaves him inactive and without memory. His disguise—a humble yellow Volkswagen Beetle—is the only thing shielding him from the outside world… until Charlie appears.
Charlie Watson, played by Hailee Steinfeld, is a young mechanic with a passion for cars and ’80s music. On the verge of turning 18, she’s going through a period of uncertainty, marked by the loss of her father, a dysfunctional family, and the feeling of not fitting in. It is in this search for identity and comfort that she finds Bumblebee, covered in dust and seemingly completely broken down.
