Blue Jay

In the small town of Crestline, California, fate brings together once again two people whose lives had drifted apart for more than two decades. Jim and Amanda, high school sweethearts, had lost contact over the years until a chance encounter leads them to cross paths at a local supermarket. This casual reunion marks the beginning of an emotional journey that confronts them with their past and lingering feelings.

Jim, played by Mark Duplass, returns to Crestline carrying a heavy emotional burden: the recent death of his mother. His purpose is clear, though painful—to sell the family home, a place filled with memories and shared moments. Meanwhile, Amanda, portrayed by Alison Paulson, visits her pregnant sister, which also brings her back to her hometown after years of absence.

What starts as a simple meeting quickly turns into a reunion filled with nostalgia and melancholy. First, they share a coffee, then a beer, and even some candy—small but meaningful symbols that open a door to their shared memories. This initial closeness feels almost natural, as if time had never passed, and soon they find themselves at Jim’s mother’s old house, the epicenter of so many memories that pull them into a spiral of deep emotions.
